AmeriCorps Programs

FCEH was proud to partner with AmeriCorps, a national service program that provides opportunities for individuals to serve their communities in many different capacities (often called the domestic version of the Peace Corps). FCEH had a total of 37 AmeriCorps members serve 2-6 months through the Volunteer Florida AmeriCorps State program. In exchange for a living stipend, educational award, and valuable on-the-job experience, members committed to intensive service that furthered our mission of caring for those who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless.

AmeriCorps Health Navigator Program Outcomes

T AmeriCorps Members were able to serve a total of 744 persons experiencing homelessness in Jacksonville, Lakeland, Miami, and Orlando areas in this program. A special thank you to CoC Lead Agencies and other host locations for providing oversight and instruction for AmeriCorps Members and to our sponsors for making this program a reality.

744 persons met with our AmeriCorps Members and received information about healthcare and housing services
523 persons received a change in status including assessment of eligibility of Medicaid and access to coordinated entry (housing services)
An additonal 30 were provided direct access to healthcare appointments or links to their Managed Care Organization for additional services.

The AmeriCorps Members helped launch our Homeless Leadership Academy.  The Academy will provide online training for individuals with lived experience that wish to start their career in homeless services.  This project continues today.

We have had our first graduation!  40% of our graduates have already started their career in homeless services, obtaining full time employment with partner agencies, 20% have enrolled in college to continue their education and to use their new skills in other systems of care (law enforcement and nursing).  Their skills will help them understand the intersection of service providers and will help them navigate the systems of care in the future.
