Homeless Leadership Academy

The Homeless Leadership Academy was developed under AmeriCorps and continues to be available for persons with lived experience who are working in the homeless services field.  

In this program, learn:

• How to Use your Resources - get connected to other free training for persons with lived experience.
• Introduction to Homelessness - Learn about homelessness in Florida and get connected to data
• Introduction to Housing First - The evidence-based cost-effective solution to homelessness is to provide housing first, then add supports that are tailored to keeping an individual in housing.
• Cultural Competency and Inclusion - Everyone brings a new prospective to the work of ending homelessness.  Learn how to engage others to better understand and to effectively serve everyone.
• Harm Reduction - Learn how to reduce harm for individuals with severe mental illness or substance use disorder
• Homeless Problem Solving - Learn how to work with a client to build on their strengths and to help clients find alternatives as quickly as possible (diversion)- 
• Introduction to Data - Learn about the Homeless Management information System and how to track services and program outcomes in the widely used database system.
• Determining Eligibility - Learn the documentation requirements for various homeless programs.
• Housing 101 - Learn about the different types of housing solutions and where to find available housing.
